Geographical indications and designations of origin

A geographical indication protects the name that identifies a product as originating from a specific area and having quality, reputation, or other properties linked to that area. Protection is granted by IPPO under the Law on Industrial Property.

Who may file

An association of producers, units of local self-government, competent authorities, or a natural/legal person producing a specific product in the area.

Registered GIs in Macedonia

IPPO keeps a public register. Examples: Ohrid pearl, Tikveš wine (region), and others.
