- Geographical indication (GI): product has reputation or specific properties linked to the area, but not all production stages must occur there.
- Designation of origin: all production stages (production, processing, preparation) occur in the defined area and quality depends on the natural and human environment.
Who may file
An association of producers, units of local self-government, competent authorities, or a natural/legal person producing a specific product in the area.
What the application contains
- Form GN-1 — request to protect the geographical name
- Product specification (characteristics, methods, geographical area)
- Proof of link between the product's properties and the area
- Proof of fee payment
